Who knows where real-life adventures will lead? Living in The Land of the Midnight Sun is the place for such adventure. In 2015, The Anchorage Press published a short, nonfiction story about the author’s narrow escape while wildland firefighting. The following year, Embers of Memories won an Alaska Press Club award for best historical piece in all media. One of the judges suggested turning it into a novel. Four years later, the suggestion became reality.
In 2019, ALASKA SPARK won the honor of being a finalist in the Romance Writers of America, Wisconsin Chapter, Fab Five novel contest, competing with writers from around the country. It went on to win three awards for Independent Publishing in 2020 and 2021. While these books are works of fiction, they’re loosely based on true life events and the author’s experience as a wildland firefighter. She has lived in Alaska most of her life. Early in her federal career, she worked as a wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, having fought fires in Montana, California, and Alaska.
