Michael Maiwald, born in 1967, serves as the Head of the Process Analytics Department at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin.
He is a physical chemist who completed his studies at Ruhr-University Bochum in 1994, where he also earned his doctorate. Subsequently, he led a research group focused on online NMR spectroscopy at the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics and Thermal Process Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. He also worked as a scientific staff member and group leader in Central Service Analytics at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, until he was appointed as the Head of the "Process Analytics" department at BAM in 2008. In 2012, he obtained his habilitation in Process Analytics at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.
Quantitative NMR (qNMR) has been around for a long time, but also has great potential to solve future problems in any quantitative analysis. As a primary method, it differs fundamentally from chromatographic methods: it is better described as a quantum mechanical balance. Successful...
