The Nordic Gülen Center is an independent civil society organization established to explore and promote the ideas of M. Fethullah Gülen, a prominent Islamic scholar and thinker born in 1938 in Erzurum, Turkey, and who passed away on October 20, 2024, in Pennsylvania, USA. The Center aims to objectively analyze Gülen's intellectual legacy and the global movement he inspired, known as the Hizmet (Service) Movement, through academic research, publications, and events fostering public understanding.
M. Fethullah Gülen devoted his life to emphasizing the significance of moral and spiritual values in human life while advocating for education, interfaith dialogue, and social harmony. Since the 1960s, Gülen initiated an educational mobilization that has evolved into a global network of schools, cultural centers, and dialogue initiatives spanning numerous countries. The Hizmet Movement, rooted in principles of inclusivity and universal human values, seeks to foster peace and coexistence regardless of religion, language, race, or geography.
Inspired by these principles, the Nordic Gülen Center conducts research and organizes activities to better understand and articulate Gülen's intellectual heritage and the societal contributions of the Hizmet Movement. Through conferences, workshops, academic publications, and research projects, the Center aims to engage both the academic community and the wider public.
This book represents one of the Center's key initiatives aligned with its mission. Focusing on the life, works, and global impact of M. Fethullah Gülen, it offers a comprehensive perspective on his thought and the inspirations behind the Hizmet Movement. The Center has developed this publication to provide readers with a well-rounded and objective source of knowledge.
The Nordic Gülen Center hopes that this book will not only contribute to academic discourse but also serve as an inspiring resource for promoting peace, mutual understanding, and dialogue across diverse communities.
