RALPH TANNER was commissioned as a second lieutenant to the Second Battalion KOYLI on 1 January 1942, joining them for the second part of the Burma campaign and the retreat, suffering from dysentery as the battalion left Burma for good. He was posted to the War Office in 1944, returning to Burma in the British Military Administration.
