Michael Schmidt graduated from the School of Business Administration, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1970. He was in business over the next decade. Mr. Schmidt applied to law school and graduated from the O. W. Coburn School of Law, Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1984.
Mr. Schmidt became an assistant district attorney in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he served as the narcotics prosecutor, specializing in Fourth Amendment search and seizure issues. He was hired by District Attorney Jean Powell for the newly formed Prosecutorial District 16A, consisting of Hoke and Scotland Counties. Mr. Schmidt prosecuted the full range of felony criminal cases in District 16A, and concentrated on murder cases.
After thirteen years as a prosecutor, Mr. Schmidt entered into private practice and has handled numerous civil and criminal cases. He now divides his time between private practice and writing.
