My mom, Margaret (Peg) Baxter (from Peekskill, NY), went to nursing school in New York City and worked at NYC Hospital. One of her classmates and co-workers, Isabelle Donnelly (from Scranton, PA), introduced her to her brother Richard. They dated, got married and had a son Richard, the author of this book. About one year later, when mom was pregnant again, they moved to Scranton, PA. My two sisters, Margaret and Rosemary, were born in the next 2-3 years in Scranton. Unfortunately, my father passed when I was five and my mother accepted a job in her hometown as the Superintendent of Nursing at the Peekskill Hospital. My sisters and I were placed in foster homes for about two years until my mother could arrange housing for the family. Once mom was promoted to Peekskill Hospital Administrator the family was together again and things returned to normal.
