Over the past fifteen years, Tanika Gupta MBE has written over twenty stage plays for major theatres across the UK as well as over thirty radio plays for the BBC and several original television dramas, as well as scripts for EastEnders, Grange Hill and The Bill. Her work for the stage includes Skeleton (Soho Theatre); The Waiting Room, Sanctuary (National Theatre); an adaptation of Hobson’s Choice (Young Vic); Fragile Land (Hampstead Theatre); The Empress (RSC); Love N Stuff (Theatre Royal Stratford East); Sugar Mummies (Royal Court) and Wah! Wah! Girls (Sadler’s Wells, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Kneehigh); Anita and Me (Birmingham Rep Theatre); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Shakespeare’s Globe, dramaturge); A Short History of Tractors In Ukrainian (Hull Truck Theatre). Tanika was awarded an MBE for her services to drama in 2008. Tanika’s play Lions and Tigers, based on the true story of her great uncle and freedom fighter Dinesh Gupta, played in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe, in 2017.
