Candice was born in Paris KY on 9 January 1988. Her parents, George Bertrand Christian, an attorney who once aspired to be an actor, and Frances Hollowell insisted that Candice and her sister Simone, be sent to a Catholic school. Candice was deeply religious as a child, at one point thought of becoming a nun.
Anna relates her tragic story of life, filled with teenaged pregnancy, abusive marriage, and homelessness, attacked and nearly rape in a foreign country, even her baby is taken from her by social services. Hardly the fairy tale she expected when she married at seventeen.
She is rescued by Rachel a prostitute with a heart of gold, before she can be mugged by two drunken men. She gives Anna a place to stay and provides her with encouragement to make something of herself. Rachel helps her find a job and even buys her clothes for her job interview.
Rachel, the hooker, is a beautiful woman, awakens a latent awareness in Anna, that she finds confusing. Anna is infatuated with her rescuer, add to that, the long absence of physical love, inevitably both women succumb to their lesbian desire. An act that instead of clarifying her situation it raises more questions in Anna.
Anna struggles with multiple problems, her lust for Rachel, her desire to recover her daughter from children's services, the seductive advances of Jessie, a girl at her new job.
Anna decides she has to come to grips with adulthood and begin making the right decisions if she is ever going to escape from the emotional and physical hole she has fallen into.
