I am a retired IT instructor and technical writer, living with my partner, a dog, a cat, and a horse in rural Appalachia. I have always enjoyed erotica and suspense, so I took a shot at writing a combination of the two genres.
Lord Henry Sandringham is the son of the Earl of Westermere. He lives the life of a wealthy gay playboy, but he has a secret that is known only to a few associates: he is an agent of MI6, the British Secret Service.
Prime Minister Robert Attworthy is a long-time friend of the Foreign Minister of Iran, Dr Hassan Tohjani. After a meeting to discuss a new treaty, Tohjani seeks a private conversation, in which he tells the PM that his son, Bijan, is gay and has been arrested. Attworthy promises to do all he can to help Bijan.
The Director of MI6 tells the PM that a new top-secret drug, SOMNOS, can put a person into a state of deep hibernation. It appears that all bodily functions have ceased, and the person is dead. Attworthy directs MI6 to use it to rescue the young man. Henry is assigned to carry out the mission, and he meets with his handler, Winnie, in a gay men's club.
Henry is sent to Tehran, posing as a representative of Sotheby's, to negotiate the sale of a Rembrandt etching to the National Museum. While there, he dines with the Tohjani family and lays out the plan to use SOMNOS to allow Bijan to escape over the Alborz Mountains and across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan.
The drug works as intended, and Henry and Bijan make their way to the Caspian seacoast, boarding a fishing boat for Azerbaijan. However, the Iranian Navy intercepts the boat, looking for smugglers, and the two are arrested.
Winnie appears just in time to help Henry and Bijan escape again, and they make their way successfully, first to the British Consulate in Istanbul, and then home to England.
This is an erotic romance, woven into a spy thriller. It is light-hearted but excitingly explicit. The Knight's Tale is part of the series Tales Along the Way.
