이 책은 2개 국어를 구사하는 아이들과 두 가지의 언어로 쓰인 글을 읽고 싶어하는 이들을 위한 책입니다. 한 두 문장으로 2개 국어가 함께 쓰였습니다. 최대한 직역하려고 했으며 또한 원어민들이 쓰는 일상용어를 사용하였습니다.
바질, 로즈메리, 팬지 자매는 활기 넘치고 수다스러우며 작은 식물들입니다. 자신들이 뭔가를 알고 있다고 생각하지만, 동물에 관해서는 전혀 아는 게 없지요. 터무니없는 추측은 커져만 가고 그 때문에 문제를 일으킵니다.
책속으로 -
바질, 로즈메리와 팬지 자매는 밝은 주황색 화분에서 함께 살았어요. 화분은 동물원 안에 있는 카페 밖의 창틀에 앉아 있었어요.
Basil, Rosemary and the Pansy sisters lived together in a bright orange flowerpot. The pot sat on a windowsill outside the zoo's cafe.
식물들 앞에는 흰색 줄무늬가 그려진 검은색 도로가 있었어요. 동물원을 구경 오는 사람들은 길을 건널 때 흰색 줄무늬 위를 걸어오곤 했지요.
In front of the plants was a black road painted with white stripes. Visitors who came to the zoo walked over the white stripes when they crossed the road.
식물들이 건널목에 관한 이야기를 하고 있을 때 큰 동물이 나타났어요. 그건 식물들을 향해 걸어오고 있었어요.
The plants were talking about the road crossing when a big animal appeared. It came across the road towards the plants.
