This is me:
My name is Tris Hahn. Well that's my pseudonym anyway. It's a combination of a nickname given to me by my grandfather on my Dad's side and a very old maiden name on my Mom's side.
I was born and raised in a small town on the West coast of Washington State. My mom was a stay at home "housewife". She unfortunately left this world in 1998. My father worked in the logging industry and he also left this world five months and exactly one week after they would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. I have one sibling. He is my older brother and we are very close even though we live very far apart from each other. I am married to my best friend and have two sons. As you can tell I am one of those sentimental people. Always have been and always will be. Too old to change now!
This is how it all started:
When I was very young our family moved into a different house. It was a different neighborhood and my closest of friends weren't nearby anymore. Also many of my friends who I had known since I could walk were moving away at that same time. Houses were cheap and jobs were plentiful so pretty much everyone that I knew were moving up in the world and that meant renting or buying a new house and moving to a different part of the city. This included my family as well. During this tumultuous time in my young life I started writing several short stories and poems. But school got in the way and life in general and so I put them away.
I had always been a reader. After reading each book I wanted to read another one and another one. Reading so much is actually what got me to wanting to write to begin with.
After reading quite a few books in a very short period of time I dug up those stories that I had written. However after all of the books that I had read I did not feel they were even worthy of anything compared to those stories. So I threw them all away.
When I think about that moment I could scream. Was I ever stupid! At my young age I did not realize that the books that I had been reading were written by established and very talented authors at that time not a kid in middle school.
I gave up writing for years and years. But I still remained an avid reader.
As I got older and my life and my age was advancing I felt there was still something missing in my life. I had a loving husband, two wonderful sons but there was something . . . Something that I had to do for just myself...
Amanda wondered how her life could change from just one sentence coming out of her Mother's mouth.
"Your Father and I have been transferred so we're moving immediately."
She went from looking forward to the rest of her senior year to absolutely dreading it within minutes. Along with Claire, her best friend from grade school, the two of them had the remaining months until graduation all planned down to the last detail. It was going to be awesome! Now all of those plans have changed. Amanda is going to have leave everything and everyone she loves in Boston. She is moving to the west coast within days.
Amanda's Mother, Lauren, had gone to an exclusive private school called Richland Academy in New York. She felt it would only be fair for her daughter to go to the same school. So with her connections from the academy she was able to get Amanda into their newest school located in the outskirts of Los Angeles. She knows that Amanda will fight her every step of the way but Lauren knows what is best for her daughter.
Amanda's Father, James, doesn't want to move. He likes his job and his house right there in Boston. He is comfortable there but when his and Lauren's job transfers come through at pretty much the same time he does not have a choice. The only real positive thing for James about the move is that he will be able to be closer to one of his buddies who has a cabin in the woods. At least he will be able to hunt and fish with him more often than just once a year as he had been doing for several years. As soon as Amanda arrives at Richland Academy the most popular students in the school decide that they want Amanda to be part of their group. She feels that this will be her way of fitting in and gladly accepts their invitation. The group's leader, Marcus Lancaster, shows her how his leadership controls the school through manipulation, intimidation, blackmail, and sometimes brute force. His influence and power reaches most of the students as well as the faculty and Marcus shows her that his dominance is aimed especially towards her. With no one willing to go against him Amanda is forced into putting in a transfer to another Richland Academy nearby. It is the only way she will be able to get away from him. When her transfer finally comes through Amanda is told that she will be leaving during Spring break.
Just before she leaves a new student Richard asks Amanda to the Senior Prom and she agrees to go with him. Marcus finds out and he starts plotting a way to show everyone and remind everyone, especially Amanda and Richard, that he is the only one who is in charge. Will the scheme that he comes up with be his defeat or his crowning glory?
