Lord Jim is a novel by Joseph Conrad that follows the story of a young British seaman named Jim. After abandoning a passenger ship in distress, Jim is publicly censured and seeks redemption and acceptance. He finds work as a ship chandler's clerk in the East Indies but constantly leaves when the memory of the incident catches up with him. It has been ranked as one of the best English-language novels of the 20th century and has been adapted into various forms, including comics and films.
