Charlotte Brontë
Charlotte Bronte was an English novelist and poet, born on April 21, 1816, in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. She was the third of six children born to Patrick Bronte, an Irish Anglican clergyman, and Maria Branwell, who died when Charlotte was only five years old. Along with her sisters Emily and Anne, Charlotte was educated at home by her father, who encouraged his children to read widely and pursue their literary interests. In 1847, Charlotte published her first novel, Jane Eyre, which quickly became a bestseller and established her as a major literary figure. The novel tells the story of a young governess, Jane Eyre, who falls in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester, but must overcome many obstacles before they can be together.
