Génova fue el socio mercantil más importante del Reino de Granada. Los emires nazaríes concedieron a sus mercaderes las mejores condiciones para el comercio y arraigo. En Málaga habitaron un barrio comercial fortificado, el Castil de Genoveses, desde el primer tercio del siglo XIV hasta la conquista cristiana de 1487. Parcialmente excavado en 1987-88, este volumen aborda por primera vez en toda su dimensión el espacio y sus habitantes con un estudio arqueológico y documental sin precedentes, confirmando por qué el puerto malagueño fue uno de los más importantes del Mediterráneo medieval.
Genoa was the most important trading partner of the Kingdom of Granada. The Nasrid emirs granted their merchants the best conditions for trade and settlement. In Malaga they inhabited a fortified trading quarter, the Castil de Genoveses, from the first third of the 14th century until the Christian conquest of 1487. Partially excavated in 1987-88, this volume addresses, for the first time and in all its aspects, the area and its inhabitants with an unprecedented archaeological and documentary study, explaining why the port of Malaga was one of the most important in the medieval Mediterranean.
