I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others. I publish under Doreen Milstead as well as my own name. My photo was taken right before the coronation of QE II in the UK.
In the quaint English village of Middleton, the arrival of December brought with it a flurry of festive cheer. The residents, bound by a strong sense of community, eagerly contributed funds for the annual village Christmas tree - a cherished tradition that brought them together year after year.
This season's tree was a towering 12-foot marvel, its emerald boughs adorned with twinkling lights and shimmering ornaments. The villagers took immense pride in their collective effort, marveling at the tree's splendor as it stood majestically in the heart of the village square.
Children's laughter filled the air as they ran around the tree, eyes wide with wonder at the sight before them. The glow of the Christmas lights reflected in their eager expressions, adding to the magical atmosphere of the village square.
In the midst of the joyous scene stood Mrs. Jenkins, the lively elderly lady who had been a part of Middleton for as long as anyone could remember. With a mischievous twinkle in her eye, she leaned over to her friend, Mrs. Thompson, and whispered, "I heard a rumor that old Mr. Higglesby might have a secret stash of festive treats hidden in his shop. Shall we investigate, my dear?"
