The twins turned sixteen amidst the awakening of their supernatural abilities as they settled into a new town in a new country. Maplewood, Maine, USA. With it came the never-ending darkness of evil weaving its way through the town, wreaking havoc, beginning with the murder of Kirsty Hollings, whose body disappears. Then, one by one, teenagers of the town leaders and their friends feel the full force of the horror awakening. All linked to the carnage thirty years ago and the town's Secret Six'. A council focussed on keeping the darkness at bay and the townsfolk oblivious, but evil wants revenge.
Now, the baton is passed down to their children, who, along with Jenny and Nicholas, must prevent Teddy Mayfield from resurrecting the 'COVEN' and what dwells beneath Maplewood Lake's murky surface.
Centuries ago, the town was known as 'Wickenwood', overrun by witches and warlocks, tapping into its rich supplies of 'Hag Stone' in the forest's heart. Thirty years ago, a coven lived in Thornton House, terrorising the town until it hit back. The witches turned to the darkest of their magic; their leader turned her mentally unstable son, locked away in a mental institution for a series of sexual assaults were blamed on a brain injury suffered in Vietnam. And made him part powerful demon.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect, as the coven leader and its remaining witches were taken out. Teddy Mayfield escapes to terrorise the town in revenge. Eventually, the Secret Six stops him, too, and all is quiet for thirty years. Although they couldn't stay dead, the witches were buried, locked away, and had their hearts removed and imprisoned. They rest in glass jars, beating to the same haunting rhythm as Thornton House. Now, Teddy Mayfield wants to bring them back.
Survival rests on young shoulders and the new council. Can the twins and their friends stop Mayfield and the witches and stop the bloodshed?
