I’ve arrived at my writing debut via a life in engineering, painting and sculpting.
Not a usual path for an author, for certain.
Starting at school in Chichester in the south of England, via University at Imperial College, London, UK – where H.G.Wells made his start – I worked through a bunch of jobs mainly in the project management side of the construction industry in England, I finally settled in Southern Ontario, Canada. There, I worked in steel, public housing and bank sectors. Early retirement allowed me to say goodbye to industry. Moved on to Ontario College of Art and Design for honours in Sculpture and Installation. Worked my art practice in a shared stone sculpture studio for over ten years. Now resting my overworked arms to pursue writing.
Generally a life well lived, exposed to all those left weighted brains and right ones too.
Do I sound a bit straight up to you? Maybe. But read what I have to say before you reach any hard onclusion.
This book provides a comprehensive exploration of the Armenian Church and its theological, historical, and cultural development from its origins through the 21st century. Beginning with an analysis of the early formation of the Armenian Church and its foundational doctrinal stances, particularly its distinct Miaphysite Christology, the narrative unfolds across significant historical events, such as the Council of Chalcedon, the impact of the Armenian Genocide, and the Church's enduring role in the Armenian diaspora. The Church's theological independence, its interaction with both the Byzantine and Latin Churches, and its critical advocacy for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide serve as key themes throughout the text.
The narrative delves into how the Armenian Church navigated political upheaval, from the Persian and Arab rule to the Ottoman Empire, always maintaining its unique theological identity despite external pressures. As the Armenian diaspora spread across the globe, the Church adapted to new challenges, ensuring its survival and continued relevance in a rapidly changing world. In the 21st century, the Church faces new challenges, including secularism, generational shifts, and the ongoing efforts to secure international recognition for the Armenian Genocide. The book concludes with an examination of the Armenian Church's mission to preserve its faith, culture, and identity in a modern context, while maintaining its deep roots in the theological and liturgical traditions that have defined it for centuries.
This work aims to offer a scholarly and reflective study of the Armenian Church's role in shaping the religious, political, and cultural landscape of Armenia and the wider world, focusing on the resilience of its faith and the continuous struggle for justice and recognition. Through its examination of the Church's history, this book underscores its profound importance not only as a religious institution but also as a central element of Armenian identity, survival, and global solidarity.
