Originaire de Téhéran où il a travaillé en tant que journaliste et traducteur littéraire, notamment de Paul Auster et de Cormac McCarthy, Amir Ahmadi Arian il quitte son pays natal en 2011 pour l'Australie, puis New York où il vit aujourd'hui. Il a publié de courts textes ainsi que des nouvelles dans The New York Times et la Paris Review, et a bénéficié des conseils de Joyce Carol Oates pendant l'écriture de ce premier roman.
