Baiba was born in Latvia, a satellite country in the now defunct USSR. Her home country gained independence from the USSR during the author’s teen years. As a result, the author grew up during a time of extreme chaos, change, and new beginnings. This included a shift from Soviet propaganda to freedom of speech and religion. Economically, her world went from a communist planning economy to capitalism. This led to 3 monetary system changes (all within Baiba’s lifetime). Most newly independent Latvians were left in a deep financial crisis. This turbulent time is reflected in Baiba’s career path; from working in hospital wards, to owning her own successful business, then driving a bus in the mountains of Norway, and now, her emerging writing career.
Baiba’s life experience is a backdrop for the settings of her books. Her writings are influenced by the people she met growing up in the USSR and Latvia. Her values are rooted deep in love for the God of Israel, and in her stories she is on the quest to find God's light in every person's soul. She invites readers to stop and look at the world. And perhaps her books will help us gain a new perspective on people and things we thought we knew.
