In 2020, a leap of faith saw us giving up the luxuries of gas central heating and on-street parking and found us sledging our furniture down the cobbled hill of Clovelly, ready to begin a new life in this gorgeous 19th Century fishing village, high on the beautiful North Devon Coast.  It wasn't long before we noticed the black & white photographs around the village of the Clovelly donkeys, who navigated the steep streets to bring villagers their post, and beer, then hauled the famous baskets of herrings from the fishing boats at the harbour. We were lucky enough to find ourselves just a short climb up the cobbles to the old stables where the Clovelly donkeys live and soon started to get to know them and their individual characters.  Pablo, the inspiration for our story, was the youngest, cheekiest and funniest member of the family and our bedtime story came to life in the Donkey Shoe Shop.
