He follows the algae news the way some people follow the sports news.   Apparently incapable of writing properly dystopian fiction.  The "robot apocalypse"   doesn't  happen because the robots have better things to work on. Even hideous hordes of invading aliens are good guys. Or… they’re doing the best they can.
