Jef Kaiser grew up on Siesta Key, a barrier island on Florida’s Gulf Coast. After four years in the U. S. Coast Guard as a medical corpsman, he received degrees from Florida State and Oregon State universities, then worked for 34 years as an environmental planning manager in Oregon. He retired in 2009. During his many return visits to Florida, he has hiked, camped, and paddled extensively in the state’s natural areas and waterways. In his younger years, he was an avid and certified SCUBA diver. Jef lives in Gresham, Oregon with his wife, Jennifer.
