Marie Renard was born and raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana, and has been practicing and teaching Hoodoo for over three decades. Moving to New Orleans at the age of twenty, she began to frequent the city's Voodoo circles and these acquaintances led to her conversion to the Voodoo religion. Later she also began to practice Hoodoo magic, becoming a reference point for the community.
