My name is Michael Kirk and I have worked as a professional life coach for several years. Having helped a wide range of clients to work through their different struggles I want to share my experiences with others so they too can begin carving out a more satisfying life.
I know the struggle because I have lived it. I wasn't always a life coach, I was a salesman when I left university. It was something I fell into, not what I had dreamed of doing. Before I knew it years had gone by and I was working hard, but my life was not a happy one. I was exhausted and facing burnout.
It was only the recovery time for an injury that allowed me the time and space I needed to re-evaluate not only how satisfied I was with my work, but also how happy I was with my life. In that month that I was out of action I decided that I had to take a new direction. That was when I began working for a well known charity.
Helping others was something that gave me renewed purpose, knowing that my hard work was genuinely going into helping someone who really needed a hand was exhilarating. I expected the feeling to wear off after a few months, but it didn't. Instead it got stronger and stronger and that was when I realised that looking out for others is my ultimate purpose.
I was telling to one of my charges how I came to work for the charity that helped them when they asked me what I would like to do next. I admitted that I hadn't really thought about it. She and I had previously been discussing problems that she faced in her life. She suggested that I become a counsellor. It sparked something in me.
I looked into counselling, but became taken with the idea of working for myself as a life coach. I have spent several years as a life coach and I am now eager to share my experiences.
