MLHolton has a 4-year Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and the University of Edinburgh, where she independently studied the history of the English language. Decades later, after running a signature Canadian fine furniture design studio in Toronto, she received a scholarship to understudy with two-time Giller Prize winner M.G.Vassanji, in the Graduate Creative Writing Program at the Humber School for Writers.
She is the author of three novels: 'Economic Sex' (1985), set in Toronto and New York; the award-winning design novel, 'The Gilded Beaver' (1999 / Second Edition in 2020); and 'TRILLIUM' (2019), a tri-family saga set on the Niagara peninsula. MLHolton has also contributed to several fiction anthologies in the UK and USA.
Recently nominated for a Ontario Premier's Award for 'Excellence in the Arts', this eclectic polymath was selected as 'Artist of the Year' by the City of Burlington in 2016 for her 40 year contribution to the local arts and cultural scene in the Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario, Canada. She also received an 'Alumni of Influence' Award from the University of Toronto in 2017.
After writing and directing 'The Frozen Goose' (25 min DVD, 2016), she produced a spoken-word & electro-pop album, 'CANADADA: TAKE TWO', to mark Canada's sesquicentennial. Her two older poetry books and pinhole-photo-collage art books, published under her artist's imprint, can be found on her website. - Have a gander!
