Nina Karakonti grew up in Mackenzie - a small mill town in Northern British Columbia, Canada. From an early age she knew she wanted to be a writer. At four she wrote her first book. It was a little hard to read, but she knew even then writing was her passion.
She was raised in a family that had a love for all things history. Every possible historical movie, dramatization or series was on the shelf in Beta, VHS and DVD, next to two sets of Encyclopedia Britannica and rows of historical novels. After watching a movie, she would often look up the history in those enormous encyclopedias. That led to Nina riding her bike to the local library and spending hours and hours reading non-fiction books on history while taking notes and crafting and outlining story plots.
As a young girl she enjoyed the classics - Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and others. She then moved on to authors like Jean Plaidy, Eugenia Price, and Edward Rutherfurd in her later teens and early twenties. Now she enjoys reading the richly crafted, captivating and historically detailed novels of Phillipa Gregory, Sarah Dunnant and Brenda Rickman Vantrease and so many other gifted writers.
She spent time as a librarian in small Northern BC communities where she met the man who would be her soulmate. They married, romantically and quietly eloping in their living room first, followed by a Renaissance themed wedding with family and friends. She helped her husband raise a beautiful young girl who became her own heart-daughter.
Now living in the scenic Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada with her loving husband and her silly pomeranian, she enjoys the beauty of nature surrounding her, spending time with family, traditional bead weaving, sewing and of course... writing.
