Oakley Hall (1920-2008) est né à San Diego. Diplômé de l’université de Californie, il sert dans les marines pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Son roman le plus célèbre, Warlock, est finaliste du prix Pulitzer en 1958. Adapté au cinema sous le titre de L’Homme aux colts d’or, il connaît un grand succès.
