Shahnaz Bashir was born and brought up in Kashmir. His essay, ‘A
Crackdown in Natipora’, was anthologized in Of Occupation and
Resistance – Writings from Kashmir (Tranquebar 2013). He was
honoured with the university gold medal and the Shameem Ahmad
Shameem Memorial Kashmir Times Award in 2007.
Shahnaz teaches creative journalism, and narrative and literary
reportage at the Central University of Kashmir, where he is coordinator
of the post-graduate media studies’ programme.
The Half Mother is his first book.'
