Born on the 16th of July 1982, Sonic J. Aquilina is the oldest son of Mario and Lorraine. He has got two younger siblings: Maria and Daniel.
From a tender age he started showing a great passion for the Maltese language through his writing and reading. He used to finish any book in three days while attending Secondary School and built a personal library in his private room at home.
When it comes to writing, he was known to make such lengthy compositions at school that, despite being considered a pleasant read, teachers often advised him to limit himself and follow the school's regulations. This led him to fail several examinations.
Over the years, Sonic started experimenting with his own stories. By writing short poems in English, he won some competitions in North America. He also wrote several song lyrics while experimenting on theatrical projects such as comedies, pantomimes, and even drama, all of which were well received by the public. From the cinematographic point of view, he wrote two movies. However, these have remained unproduced.
Adding to the list, the author tried his skill in novels and short stories. Before getting published for the first time, he caught the eye of Joseph Sultana, head of Vision+, who encouraged him to publish his short stories in an anthology he was producing. These stories appear in the book Whispers in the Wind alongside other writers' stories.
At A Flickering Call is the debut novel, published again with Vision+ and later by BDL. The story was conceived when, one night, the author couldn't sleep, so he decided to look around the room and write a description of what he saw on his cellular phone.
The author always had a passion for the fantasy genre however, due to limited resources in Malta, he was always kept a step back to write something for theatre and videography. Because of this he decided to turn his idea into a novel where nothing could hold back his imagination
