I was born in Djursland but raised in London so my chosen language in writing is English but my work was written in Aarhus. My ethnicity is Sri Lankan and this pushes me towards themes in my writing that Western writers seldom write about. My writing journey is imbedded in film-making.
It was only when I watched world cinema that I started to put pen to paper and write my own stuff. Things like Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love and Mani Ratnam's Nayakan drove me to this endeavour. I thought to myself that I want to convey messages, emotions and wonder to cinema-goers. To do that, I need to show proficiency in writing, if I can prove to myself that my writing can illicit an emotion response; then I can move on to be a filmmaker. So at this current moment, writing is part of my journey to reach elsewhere. It is only through my readers that I can know if I am successful.
