My parents were travelling showmen and I was born on the road between shows. We traveled extensively on the East Coast of Australia with our Carnival, attending the local school in the towns along the way. When World War 2 started in 1939 the shows were discontinued and our Carnival was placed in storage. In 1942 I attended a bush school of less than 15 students to complete my schooling and attain a Diesel Engineering qualification at aged 15. Being interested in engineering design I designed and built a house of 50 squares in an elevated circular configuration in the shape of a space ship. The purpose of this radical shape was to withstand cyclonic wind from all points of the compass.
This is a Memoir of a Carnival boy, born on the road in the middle of the Great Depression A story of travelling the showgrounds of Australia and growing up among the sideshow people, the freaks of Sideshow Alley, colourful Gypsys, Boxing Tents, Variety shows were part of his everyday existence.Attending Schools along the way with his older brother, always the new pupils, dealing with the local bullies in their own unique way. Then along came World War Two, rationing of the basic needs, money was short, faces long. It was at this time he was able to attend a tiny bush school, but life was to include brutal soul destroying discipline. He marries the girl of his dreams, the build a fabulous house together but life was to deal a knockout blow that will test their love and devotion to each other. But then, when your wishes are so overwhelming they awaken the latent spirits of the Wild Boar, anything is possible.
