John left the United Kingdom 17 years ago with his wife Maria to live in a small village in the north of Sweden near the Arctic Circle. Since then, he and Maria have worked via their own company and as consultants on numerous funded projects and local government initiatives to help people from all over the world and from all walks of life start new lives in Sweden.
They spend their summer and autumn days walking in the forests with their dog and the winter and spring skiing and driving their snowmobile exploring the wilderness.
The Battle of Cattreath is one of the great unknowns of early British history. A small band of men from the 'Old North' of Britain, the Gododdin, mount an audacious assault on the Angle stronghold of Cattreath.
Most of the information we have comes from a single poem, the Y GODODDIN, and it is this that inspires John James' dark, powerful and original retelling of the attack. With stark prose and powerful description, James takes an almost-forgotten story and makes it real.
