The pond where the ducks lived had dried up in the drought. They had no choice but to fly away to seek a new home. They were caught up in a dark and dusty storm and they lost all sense of where they could find a new home. The storm blew the ducks into the city. They passed over vast areas of suburbs. There was not welcoming sign of water anywhere. Eventually they sighted the sparkle of water beneath them. They landed only to find that the pond was very crowded with other duck refugees. This was not a suitable home for them or their next generation of ducklings.
Once again the ducks rose into the air seeking better place to live. They flew over many different places, but they could not find a suitable place to call home. The countryside was too dry. There were too many sheep and dogs and people. The rivers and ponds were too green and dirty. They flew until they reached the remote mountains where the air was fresh and the trees were tall and green. The mountain waters sparked and sung a water song over the rocks. The old Aboriginal spirits which still lingered in the forest called to the ducks to stay.
