Michael Scott Bertrand lived a hundred lives before becoming a storyteller. After a successful career in government and politics, he tore off his tie to become a full-time novelist and never looked back. Mike was born in Virginia, raised in Vermont and currently resides in Florida. He is a graduate of Penn State and Fordham Law. In one of his past lives, Mike was flattened by a bull in the Plaza de Toros in Pamplona.
The middle tale in the Treasure of Tenochtitlan trilogy
Wendy Willoughby can't get over what happened in the jungle. She went through hell and survived, but the experience changed her. Since returning to Chichen Itza, where she works as an archaeological artist, she's been bitter and withdrawn. She's furious about the secrets she's being asked to keep. Even though she's only in her 20s, she worries misery will follow her for the rest of her life.
Luckily, she still has a job … one that will be taking her across the Atlantic to Spain. There, her boss hopes to find clues leading to the New World's greatest lost treasure. Wendy's task? Create a color reproduction of a rare Mayan manuscript, which may or may not hold the answers her employer seeks.
The young artist has doubts about the quixotic quest, but she isn't going to pass up a free trip to Madrid. After all, she's always wanted to see the Prado. But Wendy will soon learn that journeys don't always go according to plan … and as much as she wants to escape her past, her adventure is just beginning.
