Leslie William Gates, who goes by the pen name of Les Bill Gates, was born in England in 1949. In 1972, he graduated from Keble College, Oxford University with an Honours degree in Mathematics. The following year he completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Education at Exeter University. Les has toured the world extensively and has spent more than twelve years in the Solomon Islands and more than twenty years in New Zealand. Les was a High School teacher and is the former Principal of King George VI National Secondary School, Solomon Islands. Les is now pursuing a new career as an author. ‘Hope’, the first part of the fantasy trilogy ‘Windows on Our World’, is his first book. The second part ‘Faith’ is awaiting publication, and ‘Love’, is still in progress.
The short stories contained in this anthology have been written at different times over the past eighteen years.
Some stories, such as Threw Lake are purely fictional; others, such as Follow that Star, are factual stories experienced by the author; and yet others, such as Unfair Dismissal, are partly based on fact and part fiction.
There are several genres represented in this anthology – Fantasy (The Rivening of One), Science fiction (D.O.V.E.S), Humour (Mistaken Identities), Philosophy (She stood at the Crossroads of Time), and there's even Tragedy, but I won't spoil your enjoyment by telling you which stories have tragic endings.
The final story of the anthology, The Rivening of One, is a history of the world I created for my young adult epic fantasy trilogy Windows on Our World. If you like this story and want to read more, visit my website. There you can read chapters from the first two books of the trilogy, and find links to sites where my books can be purchased.
There is no one underlying theme of the anthology; but if I had to choose a theme, I suppose it is life, human relationships and death. But not all stories fit into that category.
