The Republic of Macedonia is slowly but surely being recognized for the enigmatic country it truly is, with natural wonders, intriguing history, and fascinating folklore. Folklore, legends, old wives' tales and stories of medieval military glory are part of daily life for many Macedonians.
Macedonian cultural heritage abounds in myths and legends, and each corner of Macedonia, depending on its particular tradition and influences, has stories of its own.
Legends and myths are picturesque stories about nature, history, the faith of the world, goods, and man. Myths can be found around the world and they are marked by the characteristics of the region. They celebrate heroism, carry certain messages, but above all, they speak of the beginning of the world, which brings them into connection with religious interpretations of ancient civilizations.
Macedonian cultural heritage is rich with legends, myths and variety of national oral and written literature. Each part of Macedonia, depending on tradition and ambient, has its myths, legends, stories, spells, toasts, folk songs, customs, and historic events that can't be found in chronicles, almanacs or codes.
This book collects 55 legends, and other stories from various parts of the Republic of Macedonia. The legends are pulled from the oral tradition and thus vary greatly in length and level of complexity. Some are just a quick paragraph with a moral, while others are more of a short story length and feature fantastic descriptions, legendary characters, and so on.
