This book depicts the life of a middle-class Indian girl, Karan, and her family. After Karan loses her mom, who was working as a doctor in India, to the coronavirus, her family is forced to move from their hometown of Mumbai, India to seek treatment for her aunty, who is battling stage-four liver cancer. Moving to the USA was a promising move that filled Karan's family with hope — until the doctor discharged Karan's aunt, who had only days to live. By meeting a missionary at the hospital, the situation changes briefly. The sky turns dark again as Karan and her aunty begin to argue on their way to pick up Karan's prom dress. After stopping the car to discipline Karan, the aunty is struck by a speeding four-wheeler truck, knocking her off the road and over the bridge guards. Adding on to the mountain of disasters, Karan's father suddenly suffers a major heart attack and dies. Karan's only living relative, her uncle, has a dire financial situation and has no choice but to send Karan to live with a richer friend. With the rich family, life is chaotic, yet pleasing and dream-like. It's a story of encouragement and hope, even when going through difficult circumstances.
