Author-Poet-Versifier. Born in Harlesden on the outskirts of London in 1943, Peter Barns grew up with the scenic backdrop of Regent's Park. After attending a secondary modern school, Peter embarked on a varied career path before finding his footing in the construction industry. As an electrician, he earned a City & Guilds qualification and spent two decades working on building sites. Peter's life journey has been marked by rich personal experiences, including the joy of being a father to two, a grandfather to five, and a great-grandfather to two. In the late 1980s, he sought a quieter life in the Highlands of Scotland, where he transitioned into counselling, helping individuals with alcohol and drug issues, and later managing a charitable organisation that repurposed computers for community use. Now retired, Peter channels his creativity into writing.
Meet Uncle Hobart, a pugnacious yet lovable rogue who will take you on a whirlwind adventure alongside his long-suffer nephew. From hunting an ostrich with a smelly sock to visiting France in a homemade balloon, exploding the farm's best cow, and even shooting the world's only homing pig, Uncle Hobart's antics will leave you in stitches. With his simple yet profound philosophy of: "Everything's okay, so long as there's plenty 'o beer ter be drunk," Uncle Hobart is a character you'll love to hate. As he navigates life as a recent widower on the lookout for a new caretaker, his strong beliefs and forceful personality will keep you on your toes. Get ready for a wild ride with Uncle Hobart—and make sure you hold on tight!
