Sunny Moraine is an author of various flavors of speculative fiction; the flavor in question depends upon a complex conjunction of different variables, the exact nature of which they have yet to specify or untangle. Their work has appeared in Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, Shimmer, Lightspeed, Apex Magazine, and multiple Year's Best collections, as well as the anthologies We See a Different Frontier and Long Hidden: Speculative Fiction from the Margins of History. They are responsible for the novels Line and Orbit (cowritten with Lisa Soem), and Labyrinthian, as well as the Casting the Bones trilogy.
In additional to occasional authoring, Sunny is a doctoral candidate in sociology and a sometimes college instructor; that last may or may not have been a good move on the part of their department. Their academic alter-ego blogs weekly at Cyborgology, concerning technology and politics and fiction and reality and lots of other things. They unfortunately live just outside Washington DC in a creepy house with two cats and a very long-suffering husband.

Casting the Bones

In exile from her home and her people, Turn—once Crow and psychopomp-in-training—is living among the mysterious Ravens, a people steeped in magic and forgotten history. Despite a period of relative quiet, the peace can't last. In Sol, the world of the living, the dead are rising, and they have an appetite for flesh; the Moravici tribe—supposedly stripped of power—are actually extending the dark reach of their control and coercion. The Ravens are faced with difficult decisions, but Turn fears their choice may influenced by a source that means to destroy them.
