When a slain store clerk’s ID is discovered in a young African American’s car during a routine traffic stop in Conway, South Carolina, he and his best friend are arrested, then mysteriously disappear from the county lockup. Later, they’re tortured and murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan under the guide of racist Judge Barnes. Inside the young man’s car, a novel by Killian Prophet is found.
