Datta became serious about writing as a teenager, but it took him decades to publish his first book, Different, which won the American Fiction Award for General Fiction 2018-19 in both General Fiction and New Age Fiction, and became a finalist for the Montaigne Medal and the Ben Franklin Award.
Datta has written articles for major newspapers, edited books for a publishing house, and taught others the art and science of writing and speaking in ways that enabled them to get their message out in the world.
He finally realized that he also needed to get his own work out into the world, rather than only helping other people accomplish their dreams.
He loves writing popular fiction with a spiritual twist, with the goal of inspiring others. When he's not writing, he enjoys coaching others how to authentically express themselves through writing and speaking.
As a teacher, he primarily works with people who have a message to share. He says wouldn't trade what he does for anything.
"The Reluctant Visionary" tells the story of Raine Atwood, a young woman who inherits her mother's visions of the future, and Anna Mae Cole, her grandmother who had a similar "gift." Both women struggle to navigate their unique abilities and the consequences of their visions, which often disrupt their lives and the lives of those around them.
Raine's visions lead her to help others and eventually bring justice to a criminal gang, while Anna Mae's visions ultimately help her escape a violent home life and find love. In "The Reluctant Visionary," Raine Atwood finds herself caught between the echoes of her family's past and the pressing challenges of her present. In the small town of Center Point, Texas, Raine grapples with the inherited gift of foresight—a legacy that has both saved lives and sown discord. As she struggles to interpret her visions, Raine faces skepticism from her community and tension within her family, all while trying to save their farm from financial ruin.
The narrative seamlessly shifts between Raine's current dilemmas and the 1960s, where her grandmother, Anna Mae, also battled with prophetic dreams amidst societal and familial pressures. These flashbacks reveal a lineage marked by visions that have long influenced the family's fate. Amidst racial tensions and community dynamics, Raine's journey is one of resilience and moral questioning. Her visions, while often a source of turmoil, also offer glimpses of hope and justice in a world that is quick to dismiss the unseen. As Raine navigates the complexities of her gift, she must decide whether to embrace her role as a reluctant visionary or succumb to the weight of her family's burdens.
"The Reluctant Visionary" is a compelling blend of mystery, drama, and the supernatural, inviting readers into a world where the past and present collide, and where the power of foresight can alter the course of destiny.
