Le point de départ : deux amis vont assister à un match de boxe provincial dont l'un des combattants est l'ami d'un de leurs amis. Le match est qualificatif pour les championnats de France. Match extrêmement violent et mouvementé, occasion pour Frédéric Léal, de décrire sous tous les angles et tous les sons possibles, polyphoniquement, cubistiquement, non seulement le match en question, avec quelle efficacité! mais les spectateurs, mais le contexte social, politique, esthétique...
