'Präludium und Fuge' is a great work, which reflects Sgambati's talent both as a pianist and composer. Both sections are full of passion, each with their own difficulties: the prelude with the challenge of maintaining a constant, driving rhythmic idea throughout, and the fugue with its complex three part writing.
