Daniel ist Anfang vierzig und meistens Single. Beziehungen beendet er, wenn sie ihm zu nahe werden, beruflich bleibt er unter seinen Möglichkeiten. Eines Tages erreicht ihn ein Brief aus Israel. Eine unbekannte Tante teilt ihm den Tod seines Vaters Uri mit. Mit ihm verbindet Daniel nur eine verschwommene Erinnerung und die geschenkte Glaskugel mit der Jerichorose. Widerstrebend entschließt er sich, die Einladung in den Kibbutz anzunehmen.
Die Begegnung mit seinen Verwandten fördert Verstörendes zutage, weckt aber auch Daniels Entdeckergeist. Allein begibt er sich auf eine Reise durch sein Vaterland.
