Esta obra pretende estudiar el monacato gallego entre las dos reformas que, probablemente, han tenido una mayor trascendencia en su historia: la gregoriana y la observante. Con el marco que ofrecen cada una de ellas se pretende un estudio integral del monacato entre finales del siglo XI, cuando se pone en marcha la primera, y las décadas iniciales del siglo XVI, cuando se cierra definitivamente la segunda.
