Está basado en hechos reales en el procedimiento para filtrar las solicitudes de adopción y acogida de niños, con el fin de protegerlos de riesgos para su integridad física y mental. Los avances en la psicología y psiquiatría forense permiten realizar análisis detallados de la personalidad de los solicitantes con el fin de valorar su idoneidad. Se definen los rasgos de personalidad que fundamentan la no idoneidad del solicitante y se contrasta su concordancia con los criterios encontrados en las características de personalidad de los padres maltratadores, abusadores o negligentes en el cuidado de sus hijos, los cuales han sido propuestos por numerosas investigaciones, y las asumidas como válidas por el Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales de España, la Dirección de Servicios Sociales de la Generalidad Valenciana y Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de España.
