Holly is a little dog with a big superpower. She has a love button on her head that lights up and sends out joy and love to those around her. Holly believes in the power of kindness and inclusion. She wants to make everyone happy. It is through her compassion and determination, that she is able to help her friend Petal find the sunshine in her life again, after she has been left in the dark.
Holly and the Sunflower is a book about the positive impact you can have on others. You don’t always know what someone is going through. You can lift their spirits with kind words, recognition and sometimes with action.
Parents can start a conversation with their child about what it means to be sad, through loss, or sometimes feeling left out. It is also an opportunity to discuss understanding their limits in helping someone, and when they need to talk to an adult about it.
Karen Chambers lives in a regional town in Western Australia, and she has an interest in writing children’s books with positive messages. She lives on a property with her partner and dog Holly, and they love going to the beach and bushwalking.
