Cupid brought us together.
Cupid threatened to tear us apart, too.
Noah McKinley was the best dog breeder, ever! He was also a rather handsome man . . . who had a girlfriend whom he adored. Unfortunately. It didn't matter. He was the highlight of my day, seeing as how I worked at the pet shop. So, the day he brought in Jack Russell puppies and handed one to me – one he had picked out, just for me – I took it very seriously. That meant a lot to me.
Unable to afford the dog on my modest salary, I was forced to sell the little guy – repeatedly. See, "Cupid" was a "spirited" little animal. He was full of mischief and curiosity. So, he had a real knack for getting himself into all kinds of trouble. So, I sold the little guy and within a few days, he would come right back to the shop in the arms of an angry customer, demanding a refund.
Then, Macon Nelson came into my life. Just about the time I had saved up enough money to buy Cupid, myself, this clown shows up, insisting he knows all about the breed, in spite of my warnings about the one and only Cupid. Macon Nelson assured me he knew what he was doing. Within myself, I had the fear that he just might. I hated him for that!
So, after stalking the man – making sure Cupid was OK, of course – my dislike for Macon started becoming something more. Then, just about the time I started to like the creep, he did something he had no right to do – at least that was how I saw it.
Now, I'm back to square one. Maybe I hate Macon Nelson, after all. But . . . what if I just can't?
Should I forgive him? Would you?
