Herbert Freeman Adams dedicated 50 years to researching Tufts families. Inspired by his first wife’s Tufts heritage, he founded the Tufts Kinsmen Association and wrote a print newsletter, which grew into a two-volume genealogy. Herb was meticulous, opinionated, and a tireless correspondent who often could recall, from memory, the lineage of many Tufts descendants.
Tufts Kinsmen documents the genealogy of the family of Peter Tufts, who came from Norfolk County, England, to Charlestown, Massachusetts, before 1638. This two-volume set includes full family listings and detailed stories of significant individuals. A large section at the beginning of the book is dedicated to previous genealogies, thehistory of the name Tufts, the family history in England, and the probable origin of Peter Tufts. The book's creator, Herbert Freeman Adams, died before completing his book project, but the Tufts Kinsmen Association edited and, in 2013, produced two volumes resulting from his work. Further editing produced the eight generation ebook in 2023, which lists many ninth generation children. The ebook includes companion links to all of the original citations and indexes verifying the information contained. Those supporting files list Herbert Adams original citation codes, bibliographies, source journals, and symbols used throughout the book.
