The second and final sequel to HONEYMOON WITH HARRY (the second novel aptly titled A SECOND HONEYMOON WITH HARRY), THE LAST HONEYMOON WITH HARRY finds big-hearted, hard-headed Todd Cartwright storming through life on the Caribbean Island of St. Carlos, one questionable decision after another. Be it in his "marriage" to his never-to-be father-in-law, the irascible Harry Everett (yes, you read that right...) who knows Todd better than anyone, or with the woman he loves, the beautiful, practical, Kat, who despite being the mother of Todd's child still questions her feelings for him. Or as he fumbles through fatherhood with his sexually-active, teenage son, Earl. Or with the gracious, Viola, the restauranteur who offers Todd unconditional friendship and a professional lifeline.
As Todd finds some footing in life, the sand is pulled out from under his flip-flops when his estranged father, Kent, arrives on the island with his very young, very pregnant girlfriend, Everly. Todd's plate is already full taking care of Harry, working on a business venture with Viola, and keeping Earl's affair with an older, married woman a secret from Kat. This is the last thing he needs. And while he'd like to know the real reason his father came down to St. Carlos, for his own well-being and the well-being of his family, it is best to keep Kent and Everly at arm's length.
That is until someone fires shots at Todd, nearly blowing off his head. Something Todd is sure has to do with his father, he just can't figure out who, what or why.
When Kent skips out on Everly, it sets in motion a string of wild events where uneasy truths are revealed. Kat discovers the secrets that Todd has hidden from her and their relationship blows up in Todd's face. If that isn't difficult enough, Todd's life gets messier and more infuriating when the sly Harry uncovers Kent's get-rich-quick scheme, in which Todd is the patsy.
But everything is put in perspective when Todd suffers the second greatest loss of his life. The person he once hated the most but came to cherish, the man he recognizes as more of a father than his own father ever could be, dies. The loss of Harry unmoors Todd, but as he struggles to come to grips with life without Harry, Everly gives birth.
Three days later, the newborn is left on Kat's doorstep.
Todd has had enough. With his life turned inside out, Todd vows to protect this baby from not only his father but Everly's parents who arrive on the island to lay claim to the baby. He goes at it the only way Todd can, fists up and sarcasm blazing.
When Kat decides that she wants to adopt the baby, Todd agrees under one condition: that Kat marry him and they become a family. They name the baby 'Harry', after the greatest man Todd's ever known and someone Kat loved enormously.
But first, Todd must finish things with Kent, who makes it easy when he sneaks into Kat's home to steal the baby to sell to Everly's parents. With Harry's 'shocking' plan, Todd sends his father away without the child but with a beating that has been a lifetime coming.
Surprising Kat with an impromptu wedding at Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, where they've come to grant Harry his final wishes, Todd recognizes that he's become the man that Tami, Harry's daughter/Todd's first love, always knew he could be. He's married, father to two children, and a businessman. Peace may always be elusive to Todd but he's found something that he's always searched for: happiness.
